diy - CD Cover - Part One

Meet Terry... Terry is a banjo picker, fiddler, all around nice guy (it seems) and he just commissioned us to help him with his DIY CD Cover! As Terry isn't a visual artist, we are doing rubber stamps/print blocks for him and he will doing the printing himself.

We will be sharing the progress of the cd cover as we go along in several posts so be sure to come back to see it transform!

Step 1: Drawing
First we trace the image.  Terry provided several photos of himself and his bandmate Lisa Alcott. We felt these photos worked the best with the size of the cover and because of their clarity.

After we trace the image, we transfer it onto a linoleum block or in this case we are using rubber Speedball Speedy-Cut blocks. To transfer it we place graphite paper over the block, then line up our traced imaged and then trace over it again.  Sometimes we might have to scan the image and make size adjustments, reprint it, then trace over that image.  After that we go over it with marker and add any other elements we have like in this case the text banner, bow and fiddle.

Next we start cutting! But you'll have to wait to see that in a day or two! Meanwhile you should check out Terry playing the banjo in this video...
