Weekend Vintage Finds!

Seems like I was drawn to wood this week. Please refrain from the dirty jokes. Wooden figurines, wooden fruit, salt and pepper shakers...I even got an oversized fork and spoon set (no picture yet).

I also found a bunch of these handmade crochet magnets...they remind me of my grandma's 70's brown refrigerator...I think she may have had some of these.

Don't forget to stop by tomorrow night! Our first Giveaway of the month will be announced!

Special Announcement!

You don't have to live your life the way other people expect you to.

This past week I think I made either the stupidest or the smartest decision of my life. I'm thinking and hoping the latter. I put in my notice at my job!

Since about this time last year I started thinking about this and began goal setting. Some of these goals were met and some were not but either way it's time. There comes a point when personal happiness and sanity has to trump money and comfort. What I mean to say is that sometimes we have to make sacrifices and trade off certain things for the greater good. In the coming months I would be up for a significant raise but I still wouldn't be happy. I would still have to spend almost two hours on the road everyday and have the same amount of stresses if not more on the job, and just the general dislike for my job. This money might make us more comfortable and stable financially but is it worth the trade off?

So, after a year of being miserable and vocalizing this to Neil and then finally a couple of nights of breakdowns he finally consented for me to put in my notice. So, I did! I plan on putting all my energy into our etsy shops and also do freelance graphic design, photography and art commissions. We're both apprehensive and down right scared but I keep telling myself if it doesn't work out I can always go crawling back to my old company or try to find a job at another company.

BUT, I really don't want this happen so this is where you come in! I need your help! I need you to share Horse & Hare with your friends! Either by liking us on facebook, following me on twitter, sharing my etsy shop on social networking sites..whatever you can do to help. I'm open to do interviews for your blog or if you want to write about our work on your blog and need information please drop us a line at Also, I'm willing to return the favor!

LASTLY... Drop by the blog on March 1st! This month we are going to have weekly giveaways!

I had a very lucky week at the thrift stores this week. I even found a new thrift store that I hadn't seen and I suspect many others don't know it's there either. Here are a few of my favorite finds...

This Spiedel engraved bracelet...reminds me of The Golden Girls or Randy Newman...

I was shocked to find this 70's Elvis Ring...

Little House Project Canceled

very sad news

By Corrie Beth Hogg

It is with great regret and sadness that I have to cancel this project due to unforeseen circumstances outside of my control. I am so grateful and thankful for those of you who believed in me and in the project. I am very disappointed to say the least and I hope to stay positive by immersing myself in my other creative pursuits. Thank you and my sincerest apologies.

The Little House

If it were the early to mid nineties on a Friday night like this you would have probably found me at the Purcellville (Virginia) Community Center at Kick Out the Jams or maybe at Wavelengths in Leesburg watching local bands or maybe even playing. Growing up outside of DC I was fortunate to be exposed to the music and culture that was the punk, indie scene of the time. Whether it was a modest basement show or a show at the old 9:30 Club these places and events had an influence on me. I think many of us have had these special places combined with a time, people, music...all these elements that not only transform us personally but can have an even bigger impact and influence.

For my friend Corrie Beth Hogg, growing up in small town Ocean Springs, Mississippi, this place was The Little House - a small music venue on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. Bands such as AFI, Rainer Maria, This Bike is a Pipe Bomb, Mr. Quintron and Miss Pussycat and many others played there, leaving their mark on the teenagers and young adults that frequented there and in turn TLH left it's mark on the bands as well. The Little House unfortunately was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and the area gone the way of the strip mall but Corrie is trying to raise funds to make a documentary about The Little House so it's legacy can live on. Please watch the video below and read more about the project here: The Little House - A Documentary. I hope you will give to this worthy project! Thanks!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I was woken up with new vinyl records and chocolates...couldn't ask for a better wake up call.

here's what's cookin'...

This past week (or so) I...

Went on a lunchtime treasure hunt one day and came back with these...
I thought the mid-century Peruvian stainless steel and wooden handle teacups were so unusual I couldn't pass them up. I've been trying to find something similar online and find more information about these but I've come up dry so if anyone knows anything about them let me know!

I did my first dry point plexi-glass etching...Mr. Hare and I are still learning and working out the kinks...a lot of trial and error. I got him this little press for Christmas thinking we could use it for our lino cut prints but it's too small for many of Mr. Hare's blocks unfortunately.

And Mr. Hare worked on these new prints on various scraps we have around our house.

Thanks to Rachel Denbow and Elsie Flannigan for Project Restyle and inspiring me to finally do something with this vintage green dress. I had been meaning to do something for some months and finally got off my bum last weekend and did it. Tim Gunn would probably hate my unfinished hem but with those darts I wasn't sure what to do! Check out other projects and join the flickr group here: Project ReStyle.

This was obviously really quick. I got rid of the belt and belt loops and cut it off. Later I wore it with a different belt but unfortunately I don't have pics of that! Thanks to Corrie B. by the way for the dress!

Year of the Rabbit

1. horserabbit2, 2. Three Portraits of Joseph Beuys (detail), 3. Two Looking Rabbits, 4. Rabbit Family.

Happy 4709! According to Chinese astrological predictions this year should be calmer than last year (of the Tiger). Also, the new year promises to be, at least for the horse and hare, a busy productive year artistically and possible job promotions or career changes may be in the near future. It's about time!
